Student Support Services
At YES Prep, we are committed to working with families to make sure all of our students and their families are getting the support they need. We look to parents and caregivers to guide our student support and we seek their collaboration in working through the challenges families and students may face during their time at YES Prep.
Student Support Counselors
Each YES Prep campus has Student Support Counselors (SSC) whose primary role is to ensure all students are getting the social, emotional, and/or mental health support they need to be successful. SSCs also commit to building transformative relationships with students, staff, and stakeholders that lead to the development & implementation of evidenced-based practices, ultimately meeting the holistic needs of all YES Prep students.
Our SSC’s also work closely with teachers, special education staff and college counselors to make sure appropriate academic supports are in place for our students, when necessary.

Non-Prescription Medication Authorization Form
A parent or guardian must submit a Non-Prescription Medication Authorization Form before over-the-counter (OTC) medication can be administered by a licensed nursing staff member (RN, LVN, CVN, etc.) at any YES Prep elementary campus. This form must be signed by the parent/guardian and a physician.
McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act
YES Prep surveys families annually through the Student Residency Questionnaire (SRQ) to determine if their living situation is transitional as defined by the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act. All newly enrolled students and families who qualify for McKinney-Vento based on completion of Student Residency Questionnaire (SRQ) will have a welcome meeting with their respective Student Support Counselor (SSC). SSC will review the potential needs and share available supports and services. Children and youth who lack a fixed, regular, and adequate nighttime residence are considered transient and may be eligible for services.
Based on SRQ responses, families will be contacted by their Student Support Counselor to determine the type of services the student may be eligible for during the complete school year. Services will be provided for the duration of the qualified academic year. If, during the year, a family's living situation changes due to loss of housing or economic hardship, the family should contact their Student Support Counselor to update their SRQ and determine if they are eligible for services. Services can include but are not limited to transportation. Should a student qualify for services, a request for transportation can be initiated by the campus. Transportation services continue as routed except in cases of changes in address, which should be communicated to the respective Student Support Counselor immediately. Failure to communicate changes in housing status or adhere to the guidelines of customized routing may result in delay or termination of services.
